The Vampire Diaries:’ 'Smells like Teen Spirit' - Balance Disruptus

The balance of power is disrupted on "The Vampire Diaries:" "Smells Like Teen Spirit" aired on Oct. 20, 2011. Dead characters are coming and going as if they landed on the island featured on ABC's "Lost." One character finally gets what she deserves.

Seeing Dead People Did Not Make Him Smarter

Poor Matt Donovan (Zach Roerig). The love of his life fell for a vampire, his cheerleader almost-girlfriend swooned over a vampire and all he has left is his ghost sister, Vicki Donovan (Kayla Ewell). She convinces him to bring her back because she's so lonely. He follows her directions for a spell explained to her by a witch from the other side. With a photo, some candles and blood he brings her back.

She then clocks him the side of the head with what looks like a wrench. But first she reveals that in order to stay she needs to kill the doppelganger. When her clueless brother awakens he calls Bonnie (Katerina Graham) to help fix the mess he's made.

The Doppelganger Gets all Buffy

The doppelganger starts training, lifting weights and taking staking lessons. The dark-haired brother stand behind her and shows her a tender spot beneath the ribs, the way to a vampire's heart. The moment is steamy and sexy and lets everyone know it's only a matter of time before these two get naked together.

She later uses her new found strength to stake her ex-boyfriend right in the belly after telling him she still has hope for him.

Burn, Baby, Burn

The senior bonfire provides the supernatural teens an excuse to party, get hot and heavy and play with fire. Elena (Nina Dobrev) pretends to get drunk to distract Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley) and lure him into a trap. Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) plays up his charm and enjoys roasted marshmallows with Rebecca (Claire Holt). The doppelganger watches the scene and is jealous although she won't admit it to Stef. The "Barbie original" is too smart to fall for it and stakes him the stomach.

The doppelganger falls from the bleachers only to be caught by her protector and the hybrid's right-hand vampire. Alaric Saltzman (Matt Davis) gets him from behind and they load him to an SUV. Vampire-turned-ghost girl sets the car on fire in an attempt to kill the doppelganger.

They manage to escape and the doppelganger saves her ex-boyfriend. You can almost see his hard veneer crack a little and for a small moment the old Stefan looks out from cold eyes at his ex-girlfriend Bonnie sends Vicki back to the other side with the help of Matt.

Jealous Much?

Oh, that teen spirit smells like jealousy, Bonnie. The witch is jealous that her beau Jeremy is spending so much time with his dead-ex, Anna. She rightly points out that the other witch is only appearing because he's thinking about her. He later admits to his ex-girl and ghost witch that he can't stop thinking about her. She feels the same. In more evidence of a world out of balance, the two are able to hold hands and feel it.

Sired

Caroline (Candice Accola) warns Tyler Lockwood (Michael Trevino) that being a vampire heightens personality traits, good and bad. She lets him know he's being a jerk and he better quit it. She also tells him he's been sired and has a weird loyalty to the original hybrid now. They fool around, she leaves and the new vampire in town seduces the werewolf with some human blood.

More Eye Candy

Damon plays clean up thinking it's his brother making a mess in the house again. Color him surprised when fellow hunk Mason Lockwood (Taylor Kinney) reappears. The brother is not too thrilled. The last time Damon saw Lockwood was after he ripped the werewolf's heart out of his chest.
